Kamala Harris

Kamala Devi Harris is an American politician. Born on October 20, 1964, she is the 49th Vice President of the United States. Harris is the first female vice-president and highest-ranking female official in U.S. History, as also the first African American and second Asian American vice president. Harris is a member of the Democratic Party and was previously the attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017. Additionally she served as an United States senator representing California between 2017-2021. Harris was born in Oakland, California, Harris graduated from Howard University and the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. She began her career in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office, before being recruited to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office and then to the City Attorney of San Francisco's office. In 2003, she became the San Francisco district attorney. Harris was elected Attorney General of California in the year 2010. In 2014, she was re-elected. Harris was the junior United States senator from California from 2017 until 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Martinez in the 2016 Senate election, becoming the 2nd African American woman and first South Asian American senator to be elected to the United States Senate. As Senator, Harris was a vocal advocate for healthcare, federal de-scheduling and legalization of cannabis which could lead to the citizenship of undocumented immigrants, as well as the DREAM Act which bans assault weapons. She is most famous for her sharp questions to Trump administration officials in Senate hearings.
